This section is a part of the chapter: Stem Cell Breakthroughs: A Cure in Sight?
Stem cells like mesenchymal stem cells [MSCs] or adult stem cells may move to the affected area of the body and support the formation of other cells, therefore also moderating the action of the immune system. This type of therapy is helpful in treating chronic renal failure or other kidney issues, but additional investigation is still important. Hematopoietic stem cells [HSCs] are useful in treating leukemia or other trauma like burns and disorders of the cornea (Quimby 2018).
